Medicare Ruling
We are excited to announce a significant event in the evolution of the ON-Q® brand. ON-Q is now covered by Medicare to treat post-surgical pain under the hospital outpatient payment system (OPPS).
- Medicare has changed the designation of the code that includes ON-Q (A4306).
- Medicare has recognized this therapy to be a payable covered benefit and therefore medically necessary.
- Outpatient procedures performed in the hospital can be reimbursed for using ON-Q.
The Medicare ruling, coupled with the compelling findings of a recent independent landmark study that conclusively validates the use of ON-Q as superior for post-surgical pain relief over narcotics, today's standard of care, are compelling reasons for ON-Q to be the standard of care in post-op pain relief.
The results of the study clearly demonstrate that non-narcotic post-surgical pain relief therapy, led by ON-Q, represents a best practice by:
- Significantly better pain relief than narcotics
- Significantly less need for narcotics
- A reduction in length of stay by an average of 1 day
- Higher patient satisfaction
These can translate into tangible economic and clinical benefits for physicians, hospitals and patients.
