ON-Q PainBuster, which was ON-Q (Classic), Provides the Same Trusted Pain Relief Following Surgery, Helping Patients Get Back to Their Normal Lives Faster

LAKE FOREST, Calif., Jan 21, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

I-Flow Corporation, (NASDAQ: IFLO) today announced that it has added the name PainBuster to the lead product in its ON-Q(R) post-surgical pain relief brand. ON-Q PainBuster(R) (formerly ON-Q (Classic)) will continue to provide a trusted option for targeted pain relief that helps patients get back to their normal lives faster after surgery by dependably delivering a non-narcotic numbing medication directly to an incision site. By adding the PainBuster name to ON-Q, existing PainBuster users will quickly know that the product they have been using is now available from I-Flow as ON-Q PainBuster. ON-Q is the most widely-used choice among post-surgical pain relief devices in a potential market that is estimated to exceed $2 billion in the U.S. alone.

ON-Q PainBuster is a simple yet elegant device that consists of a small, high-tech balloon pump that holds local anesthetic (a pain-numbing medicine) and delivers it through a tiny, specially-designed tube (catheter) directly into the surgical site. The proprietary ON-Q Soaker Catheter is designed to provide more even distribution of local anesthetic over a wider area than a fenestrated catheter, because of its patented wicking capabilities.

"We are excited to get the PainBuster name back from a licensing partner and are making this change to our flagship product to better serve former PainBuster customers directly. We are also encouraged that other companies are beginning to recognize the value of this therapy for patients and the resulting market potential," said Donald M. Earhart, president and CEO of I-Flow Corporation. "While we still believe that our unique technology, programs and sales and marketing efforts have propelled us to become the number one choice in this market, we also realize that additional entries into this space will accelerate adoption of this novel therapeutic approach."

ON-Q PainBuster will deliver narcotic-free pain relief for many surgeries, including: cesarean sections, hysterectomies, knee replacements, mastectomies, cardio-vascular/thoracic surgeries, foot and ankle surgeries and many cosmetic surgeries. Currently, 26 studies of the use of ON-Q have been completed and published and yet another body of research is underway investigating the use of ON-Q in additional areas such as pediatrics and wound healing.
